Today is my sister Carolyn’s 30th birthday! Like many people, I think a 30th birthday is a pretty big one in someone’s life and I wanted to celebrate this amazing occasion by sharing some awesome moments from our childhood and beyond, and touching on some of the fond memories I have of growing up with her and our family. I dug up years worth of photos (please excuse the terrible scrapbook cropping on the first 15 years or so lol) and selected these 30 images to give you a glimpse into our family life but also to put a smile on your face as I reveal the horrific hair, glasses and outfits of the ’80s and ’90s we so willingly wore without the understanding of just how bad they actually were. Of course you will also see that once we hit the ’00s, we did start to look a little more acceptable as we ventured into adulthood.
The biggest reason I wanted to bring attention to this special day is of course to tell people about how amazing Carolyn is. Carolyn lives a province away in Victoria, BC but that hasn’t stopped us from continuing a close knit friendship, one that I am forever grateful for every single day. Today is all about celebrating this awesome girl – an amazing sister, a fabulous daughter, an incredible wife, a fun auntie, a passionate employee, a lover of nature and one who is obsessed with all things vintage and travel. But most importantly, she is so genuine and caring and treats the people in her life with so much love and respect. She has a heart of gold and I love her so much.
Happy Birthday, Carolyn. You make our world so much better and you bring a smile to our faces every single day. Know how much you are loved and appreciated, always. Welcome to the thirties club!

Carolyn’s day of birth – June 2, 1986.
Fun times in the tub. We could not have looked more different.
Carolyn and her thumb, so sweet. I’m not really sure what’s going on with the Lloyd Christmas look I have going on here.
White Rock Beach, BC. I remember playing with these buckets in our backyard all the time too. We used to put them on our heads and pretend we were soldiers. White Rock Beach will also always remind me of putting coins on the train tracks and waiting for the train to flatten them.
Kelly joins the family this year! The shirt Carolyn is wearing is in so many of my childhood memories, she wore it all the time.
Killer, killer outfits here.
So let’s just say, these Childrun shirts were a strong part of our childhood. There were many photos I found with Childrun shirts being worn.
See – those damn Childrun shirts again. Also, what is with the absolutely insane crop going on here?
Daniel is born! I wasn’t going to choose this photo but it deserves to be seen. I’m just not sure why we have a photo with Daniel’s first poop in it.
Spending time with cousins in the Okanagan was something we always looked forward to. So many great summer memories!
Epic photo. Seriously epic. Brian was also born this year (missing from this lovely photo).
Canada Day. We used to love going to our local Canada Day celebrations every year. This was also the last summer we were in BC before we moved to Calgary.
McGuinness family reunion in BC. We had the incredible opportunity to grow up with Granny & Grandpa in Langley for many years. Some of my best memories come from times spent with them.
Rockin’ that insanely awesome hair!
Emma is born this year and completes our family! I’m loving Brian’s facial expression here.
All the sibs.
Carolyn’s high school grad – she graduated a year early. Such a smartie pants.
Ready for a girls night out on the town. Which consisted of some awesome times at Cowboys Nightclub with our friend Ashley Blokzyl.
In January 2006, I met Carolyn in Ireland where she was finishing up a field study. We traveled to 11 European cities in 30 days together. It was the most incredible trip of my life. To date, it’s still my favourite thing I ever did. Of all the amazing photos we took in all the beautiful cities we went to, this photo brings back the most happy memory for me. We had traveled all night by train to London and barely got any sleep at all. So of course we were outrageously tired and had the giggles from being overtired. We laughed uncontrollably in a London Starbucks. Good times.
Our family went to the Shuswap and stayed in an awesome little cabin. One of my favourite memories of our family all together.
Carolyn was living in Vancouver now and this was my first trip out to visit her. She had just met her husband Jesse around this time too.
Matt and I went to Vancouver for the Olympics and enjoyed hanging out with Carolyn and Jesse who were great hosts. Carolyn also graduated from her Masters program this year.
My maids of honour at our wedding. I remember their wonderful words to this day.
Carolyn and Jesse are married in beautiful Victoria, BC. It was such a perfect day.
Our cousin Mark and his wife Kim were married in Sooke, BC. Carolyn with Landon who was just 4 months old here. Best auntie!
Carolyn and I went to LA together and loved every minute of it. At this point in time, it was really such an amazing trip because we got to talk about our lives which included husbands, kids and jobs we were passionate about. The friendship part to our relationship has been such a gift.
Carolyn spending some quality time with Landon when Levi was brand new. Clearly Landon loves her.
There are so many more memories Carolyn, but hopefully these ones put a smile on your face today. Love you! xo
